Sheffield Hallam University Canoe Club
Our club is a well-established recreational sports club that encourages members of all abilities to develop their skills, through recognised BCU qualifications and also to try new disciplines, including canoe polo, creek boating and slalom. We also offer regular trips to a variety of locations, both in the UK and abroad. These aspects of the sport all help to enhance our academic studies by developing essential soft skills such as leadership, teamwork and communication. This enables individuals to work towards achieving more as well as acquiring attributes and contacts to further their own ambitions. We have developed a strong gender equality programme, giving males and females opportunities to develop within respectful and encouraging environments. Students also enhance employment skills through volunteering and fundraising for the club and a local charity: St Luke's Hospice, thus creating a positive social responsibility scheme.
This year we are hoping to raise a minimum of £10,000 to replace our aging fleet of polo boats and safety gear including buoyancy aids, helmets and face guards. Any extra funds would be used to subsidise the costs of our various trips to encourage more people to get involved with the sport, as it is an expensive, if not rewarding sport for students in a disadvantaged community. We are also fundraising through running our own events and sponsorship activities.
There are many benefits that we as a club can offer in return for sponsorship. These include:

- Raising Awareness of your brand
- Outreach to a student community for employment (Stands at employment fairs/job adverts for part time work)
We have found that displaying the logos of our biggest sponsors on the back of our club hoodies is particularly effective as they will be seen by over 40,000 students at Sheffield Hallam alone, with an additional 26,000 people in Sheffield’s larger student community. There is also a potential national audience if you take in to consideration our attendance at events including Tyne Tour, the National Student Rodeo and BUCS.
